Amb Umar Galadima: A Youth Leader in the Frame of Tribute
One does not have to be grey-haired before one can begin to make the necessary positive impact on the society, so it is often said.
The aphorism is a fitting description of Amb. Umar Mohammed Umar Galadima, who within the first three decades of his life hascontributed immensely to youth development. Born on the 3rd of April, 1986 at Nigerian Cotton Board Quarters Funtua in the defunct Kaduna State of Nigeria, Galadima’s parents, late Alh. Muhammadu-Inuwa Umar Galadima and Haj. Zainabu-Abu Suleiman Jamari were originally from Hong in Adamawa State.
Amb. Galadima obtained his First School Leaving Certificate fromTarauni Special Primary School, Kano State in 1997 before proceeding to the famous Barewa College Zaria, Kaduna State in 2003 for his Senior School Certificate. Thereafter, he went to Federal College of Education Zaria in 2007 where he obtained theNigerian Certificate of Education NCE in Chemistry/Integrated Science Education. Subsequently, he was at the Ahmadu Bello University ABU Zaria from where he graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry Education.
Amb. Galadima was a member of the National Youth Service Corps NYSC in 2012 in Lagos state and did his primary assignment as an instructor of officers and men of the Nigerian Navy instructing Chemistry for the men and Oceanography for the officers in Nigerian Navy Ship Quorra, Apapa, Lagos State. Determined to pursue knowledge, he proceeded to the National Open University of Nigeria NOUN, Lagos Study Centre where in 2015 he obtained a masters degree in Instructional Technology among others.
Galadima has worked in various areas of human endeavour which includes SunSeed Nigeria Plc Zaria, Student-Teacher at Barewa College Zaria, Student-Teacher at Penfield Science Academy Kaduna State, Instructor Nigerian Navy (after NYSC), Operations Officer Skye Bank Minna, Niger State, as well as Assistant General Manager (Administration), DNA Labs Kaduna State, CEO MENN Online amongst others. At present, he is the New Media Assistant in the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Youth and Student Affairs at the presidency.
He has participated a lot in youth struggles which includes being the National Coordinator of ‘Reject South Africa Group’. The group was devoted to forcing an end to the wave of xenophobic attacks on Nigerian youth in South Africa. He also served as mediator of Civil Society Organizations in favour of International Welders Association in Nigeria which was founded to support Nigerian youth in the welding profession to access a federal government special intervention entrepreneur training skill contracted to the National Institute of Welders and sponsored by PTDF. He specifically mediated on the alleged misappropriation of training funds.
Students Union and Community Service Ambm Umar Galadima is a member of the Nigerian Red Cross Society and had served as detachment officer with Lagos State NYSC camp and detachment commander of Badikko / Kurmin Mashi. He is also a resident blood donor with the Kaduna State Blood Transfusion Services, a youth corps donor with the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Services, and student donor with theNational Blood Transfusion Services during his school days.
Amb Umar Galadima was also the President of the largest Student Union body his Local Government of origin where he recorded some successes among which are uniting the pioneer leaders of the organization which include Dr. Aliyu Idi Hong, Justice Nathan Musa, Engr Omar Suleiman, Pharm. Wafari Theman, Prof. David Shall, Gen. Haldu Hananiya, Barr. Yerima Isa among others, with their youth counterparts including the likes of Comrade Musa Terrang a former SUG President Unimaid, Comrade Andrew Hamman former President National Association of Adamawa State Students NUADSS and current Special Assistant on Youth and Student Affairs to the Hon. Speaker House of Representatives; and Comrade Biyama Zubema former senate presidential aspirant National Association of Nigerian Students NANS. He brought them together for the first time under the same umbrella in the history of organization for the progress of the association irrespective of age, religion or political affiliation.
He is also the founder of the largest Arewa People Database MENN Online on the world’s largest social media platform Facebook to support the peace advocacy in the region and to emancipate the youth of the region from mental slavery by organizing and participating in youth advocacy, training, seminars and conferences on Education and Entrepreneurship, Information Communication Technology, Mentorship, Counseling, Peace and Conflict Resolution.
He has participated in a lot of seminars and conferences which include that of Economic and Security organized by Arewa Consultative Forum-Youth Congress and currently the Administrative Officer of the Organization under the leadership Engr. Isaac Balami. Galadima is also part of the Commonwealth Youth Council under the leadership of Ahmed Adamu who appointed him peace marshal to coordinate the six north-eastern states peace marshals and ambassadors. In 2015, he took part in the National Youth Reform Conference under the leadership of Charles Olufemi where he served as member of the communique drafting committee at the end of the conference.
He later participated in the recent Youth Diversity Conference 2016 organized under the leadership of Barr. Ismaeel Ahmed. He was also a pioneer Coordinator/ peace marshal of Youth Campaign Against Election Violence Y-CAEV in the north-east under the leadership of Ahmed Bachaka of Nigerian Youth Parliament in 2015.
Amb Umar Galadima is the author of a yet-to-be published book ‘Farewell to my Youthful Days, Journey so far’ among others, he is engaged to Hamra Hamet Badal Zagreb a graduate of computer science of Kaduna State University.
