VC calls for calm, 2nd semester examination continues

A culvert along the Usmanu Danfodiyo University road linking the varsity with the rest of the Sokoto metropolis has collapsed this evening, rendering  the road not motorable. The Culvert, which was part of the three others ravaged by flood in 2010 and yet to be fixed on a permanent basis collapsed due to torrential  rainfall experienced in Sokoto recently.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdullahi Zuru, who visited the scene of the collapsed culvert with some  university officials ordered for an immediate action to curb further damage to the road.

He said  the construction work of the culvert has been under the custody of a contractor since it was awarded after the 2010 collapse.

He thereby appeals to the Federal government and the contractor involved to urgently come to the aid of the University by fixing the road  to alleviate the untold hardship it will cause the university community.

He also stated that the ongoing second semester examination will not be disrupted by the incident, as he said that effort will be made so that the situation on ground will not affect the students.

He thereby ordered that the Ilela bye pass gate should be the only entry to the school for the main time.
