The Lagos State University (LASU) has emerged the best at the 10th Nigerian International Tertiary Institutions Model United Nations (NITIMUN) Conference.
“Aside winning the best school delegation award, LASU equally won 12 other distinguished awards which include the best six committee awards and most valuable delegate award.
“The third overall best female delegate, second best female delegate, second best male delegate and best rapporteur awards went to LASU,’’ the univrsity’s Acting Head of Centre for Information, Press and Public Relations, Mr Adekoya Martins, said in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.
According to him, LASU also won the award for the outstanding staff adviser at the conference.
Martins said that LASU won the contest for first time.
“With this achievement, LASU joined the league of schools that have won the best school delegation award at the NITIMUN Conference,” he said.
Martins quoted LASU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Fagbohun, as sayng that the achievement would open doors of scholarship for the participants.
NITIMUN Conference is an academic exercise in which students assume the role of ambassadors of member-countries of the United Nations and extensively deliberate on current global issues.
It gives the participants the opportunity to view issues from different perspectives and and appreciate different peoples and cultures.
The conference also helps participants to learn to proffer credible and acceptable solutions to identified national and global problems.
