The National Centre for Technology Management (NACETEM) has stressed the need for collaboration
among research agencies to foster investigation, innovation and development in the country.

The Director-General of NACETEM, Prof. Okechukwu Okwuoma, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja, that
cooperation was key to the growth and development of research in the country in the year ahead.

According to him, the unity of purpose of agencies in the area of research will help to enhance the sector.

He added that “rivalry among research agencies can only bring about setback to the sector:  if all agencies focus on
their area of specialisation with the sole aim of unifying their
findings to advance the socio-economic status of the nation, it will
be of great benefit to citizens.

“NACETEM is collaborating with many agencies to achieve its mandate, for instance in the area if accessing data,
we are collaborating with Federal Office of Statistics so that we can capture all data to enable the nation plan in
technology management.

“We are now planning also to collaborate with National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies in the area of policy
analysis so that we will be able to look at policies formulated.

“Policies that are in existence, policies not available, policies needed, as well as
obsolete policies needed to be changed or upgraded are our areas of focus.’’

Okwuoma explained that the technology management centre was collaborating with universities and other tertiary institutions
to ensure that the knowledge created in the technology and innovation sector was multiplied and managed properly.

He, therefore, urged other agencies of government to collaborate to promote research and techonology in the country.

NACETEM has the mandate of training and developing middle to high level manpower and conducting policy research in
areas of Science, Technology and innovation (STI) management for industrial and economic development.

The agency, among other things, provides critical knowledge support to government in the use of S&T for development,
runs Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in technology management. (NAN)
