An Abuja-based System Analyst, Mr Ademola Ogundipe, on Monday, urged youths to develop
their entrepreneurial skills in Information Communication Technology (ICT) through opportunities offered by social media.
Ogundipe, who is an ICT expert with Aptech, made the call in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
He said youths should use opportunities in the social media to enhance their careers, rekindle their interests and develop
their basic social skills.
According to him, youths should be able to use social media platforms to improve their skills in writing, reading, acting,
calculations, business and lots more.
He noted that emerging new technologies had brought about great changes globally in the present age.
Ogundipe said “it, therefore, becomes imperative that the teeming youths in the country explore these technologies that
facilitate the creation and sharing of information, ideas, career interests and other forms of expression via virtual,
communities and networks.”
He, however, cautioned that while the social media offered lots of benefits to youths, it also had negative sides.
According to him, social media is a good introduction to today’s world, but it can result in ills if not managed properly.
“One of it is that youths are sometimes exposed to vices and another disadvantage is that they can get addicted to it and
abandon other important aspects of their lives,” he added.
He, therefore, urged youths to refrain from giving false impression about themselves on social media and
engage in fruitful ventures instead of violence. (NAN)
