The Anambra Government has upgraded  the Comprehensive Health Centre in Nawgu, Dunukofia Local Government Area of the State to a General Hospital.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Joe Akabuike, made the announcement during the inauguration of the health facility, recently renovated by a son of the community.

Akabuike, in a statement issued by Mrs Ebele Egoh, Public Relations Officer, Ministry Health, Awka, on Friday said the development was in line with government’s agenda to provide efficient health care services.

The commissioner, however, commended Mr and Mrs Jerome Nwokike, who undertook the facelift facility for his good heart.

“The Anambra State Government will ensure that residents of the community continue to enjoy quality healthcare services.

“I assure you that the hospital will be fully equipped and more nurses will be employed.

”A resident doctor will also be deployed to attend to the health needs of people,’’ he said.

Akabuike, however, advised residents of the community to enroll vulnerable groups into the State Health Insurance Scheme to enable them access quality healthcare services.

Also, the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe George Okaa-Onwuogu, thanked Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra for his giant developmental strides in the state.

He appealed to the government to ensure adequate provision of manpower and equipment that would make the hospital function efficiently.

Mr Innocent Ikechebelu, the President-General of the Nawgu community and Dr Jerome Nwokike, the philanthropist, who spoke separately stressed the need for the provision of needed equipment and personnel to the hospital. (NAN)
