A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday ordered that one Nicholas Onih, be given 15 strokes of cane for causing bodily hurt.

Onih, who resides at Jabi Garage, Abuja, had earlier pleaded guilty to a count charge of causing bodily hurt.

The judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, gave the order after the convict pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.

Maiwada, however, gave the convict option of N 2,000 as fine.

He said that Onih should also sign a bond to maintain peace.

The judge warned that the court might not be lenient with him the next time he appeared before it.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Mrs Ijeoma Ukagha, had told the court that the matter was reported by one Jeremiah Isaac, of Mpape, Abuja, at the Utako Police Station, Abuja, on Feb.4.

The prosecutor said that Onih on Jan. 1, prevented the complainant’s customers from gaining access to his shop at Jabi garage.

“When the complainant confronted Onih, he tried to start a fight, but they were separated by people around.

“Onih later came with a broken bottle and stabbed the complainant on the mouth and hand.

“The complainant was later rushed to the hospital for treatment,’’ he said.

The prosecutor said during police investigation, Onih confessed to the crime.

According to him, the offence contravened Sections 246 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
