A 19-year-old Barber, Emmanuel Chukwu, who allegedly stole two cell phones and other valuables valued at N348,000, on Thursday appeared in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Chukwu, who resides at No. 68, Isheri Ajibade in Ilorin Area of Lagos state, was arraigned for stealing and conspiracy.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp Mathew Akhaloude, the defendant allegedly Stole a Tecno K7 worth N75,000, An Infinix note 6 valued at N90,000, a sum of N180,000 and recharge cards worth N3,000, totaling N348,000, property of the complainant, Mrs Mercy Michael.

Akhaloude told the court that the defendant committed the offence with others still at large on Feb.12 about 6.18 p.m. at Alausa in Ikeja, Lagos.

He said the defendant snatched the complainant’s bag and ran away with it.

The prosecutor said the defendant was apprehended by the police and the valuables were retrieved from him after passers-by raised alarm.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of  sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015,(Revised).

If convicted, he is liable to three years.

Chief Magistrate A.A. Adetunji, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 bail with two responsible sureties in like sum.

Adetunji ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and have their addresses verified by the court.

The magistrate adjourned the case until April 4 for mention.(NAN)
