A Yaba Chief Magistrates’ court in Lagos on Thursday  ordered that a cobbler,  Sodiq Quadr, who pleaded guilty to snatching a  woman’s hangdbag be remanded in prison,  pending sentencing.

The police charged Quadri, 24, who resides in Oyingbo area of Lagos, with two counts of conspiracy and attempted robbery before Chief Magistrate Oluwatoyin Oghere.

Oghere, who ordered that Quadri be remanded in Ikoyi until sentencing on April 3.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Modupe Olaluwoye, told the court that the defendant on March 19, at Onipanu bus stop, Shomolu, Lagos robbed Miss Adeola Adewunmi,  the complainant of her handbag.

She said the defendant accosted Adewunmi on her way to work and snatched her handbag which contained her Nokia cell phone and her lunch bag.

Olaluwoye told the court that the defendant and his accomplice now at large, also slapped the complainant, bit her on her right hand before snatching the handbag.

The offence, he said, contravened  the provisions of sections 411 and 296 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 296 (1) stipulates 14 to 20 years imprisonment for the offence of attempted robbery if convicted. (NAN)
