The police on Tuesday arraigned a construction worker, Joshua Anthony, in an Upper Area court at Mpape in Abuja for allegedly stealing electrical cables worth N425,000 from a building.
The police charged Anthony, 34, who lives in Lokogoma, Abuja with criminal breach of trust and theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Stanley Nwaforaku told the court that the defendant was employed by the complainant to secure her building located at Pent View estate, lokogoma Abuja.
Nwaforaku said on July 3rd the complainant went to the building site for inspection and discovered that the defendant stole all the electrical cables from the ceiling valued at N425, 000.
He said the case was reported at Apo Police station on July 5 by the complainant, Ms Roselyn Onazi of Life camp, Abuja.
Nwaforaku said that during police investigation the defendant could not defend the allegation.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 312 and 288 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Judge, Hassan Muhammad, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two reasonable sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Aug. 19 for hearing. (NAN)
