Oyo State plans recruit of 7,000 teachers
Youths Digest – No fewer than 5 , 000 jobseekers stormed the the Oyo State Post-Primary Schools Teaching Service Commission at Agodi , Ibadan , on Tuesday to obtain recruitment form.
But sources said some of the applicants, who came from outside the state, were left stranded as they could not get the form due to the large crowd.
It was learnt that mass recruitment of teachers in the state last took place during the Abiola Ajimobi administration six years ago.
The commission had earlier indicated that the form would be sold for N 1 , 000 each but Governor Seyi Makinde directed that it should be given free of charge.
The applicants, who were earlier said to have been directed by an official of TESCOM to pay N 1 , 000 each for the form , were excited when informed that they would get it for free.
The Executive Chairman of TESCOM , Pastor Akinade Alamu , confirmed that the form would be distributed for free.
He said , “ Governor Makinde has directed that the form should be given to all applicants for free.
“ We have received approval from the governor that we should recruit 7 , 000 teachers , 2 , 000 non- teaching staff, and 1 , 600 night guards for all secondary schools in Oyo State.
“ Since 2014, there has not been recruitment of teachers in this state . So , the recruitment of teachers will strengthen the free education policy of the administration.
“ The governor also gave approval for the recruitment of night guards to check theft in our schools and to protect the teachers and students.
“The governor said he wouldn’ t want people coming from Saki, Kishi , Oyo , Ogbomoso , or other distant areas to pay N 1 , 000 to banks in Ibadan , wait for confirmation from the Accountant General , before taking the form from us . ”
Alamu added , “ There will be a computer- based test to prune the number, and those that are qualified will be invited for interview after the examination .”
